I can not make the alphabet that comes after the serial number.Never have seen that before.

In looking at the serial number survey sticky above for the Argentine 1981 LR it shows 14 letter blocks of rifles that are reported as being marked Loewe. Both were Suhl firms also.It (nazi FP for BSW) started in the 1938 a-block, just a couple thousand after this rifle MFarb of course is right on the rest, not a low serial number, but it is fairly early, BSW went to the mid c-block in 1938, so it is before the halfway mark in 1938 (1938 was their biggest production year).There certainly isn't anything wrong with the rifle, so far as is shown, besides the bolt, which is comical and should be discarded whether you keep it or decide to sell it. I have a bolt so numbered, in a bolt mismatch. Smokeless-powder magazine rifle was developed by a government commission, and incorporated several action features of Mauser blackpowder rifles along with a modified version of the Austrian Mannlicher box magazine and the cartridge clip. In my early days, the docs used and abused us. It's also been modified more recently with a BOLD trigger and some expensive looking side safety (still 3 position). The first successful Mauser rifle was the Model 1871 made principally for Germany. This was considered somewhat important because mis-matched parts can cause headspace problems! The soldiers were taught to remember their weapon number and to put back what came off! I have several sets of Waffenmeister tools/gauges for different weapons and know how to use them. I consider myself a collector of the 98k, SimsonS is a student of the rifle. on my Persian Mauser, and not sure but suspect it to be Czech/ZB manufacture.
In 1941, the number codes were replaced by letter codes, and a further change was made in the last part of the war when a new system of letter codes was adopted.
